36" Tabebuia impetiginosa (Tabebuia ipe) – Pink Trumpet Tree.
Semi-evergreen shade tree with lush green foliage and spectacular pink trumpet-shaped blooms in early spring. A standout flowering tree for Southern California landscapes.
Pink Trumpet Tree (Tabebuia impetiginosa) can tolerate light shade, but it performs best in full sun.
For the best flowering display:
- Full sun (6+ hours daily): Maximum blooms and denser canopy.
- Partial shade (3–6 hours): Will grow well, but flowering may be reduced.
- Heavy shade: Not recommended; growth can become sparse and bloom production will decline significantly.
In Southern California, if the tree receives at least a half day of direct sun, it will generally perform well. If you're selecting a specimen for a shaded location, there are other flowering trees that tend to handle shade better.
